An emf+ picture added to a slide is not rendered

I am using the Microsoft Chart Control to generated a diagram and write it to a memorystream in emfplus format. Next I add this to a slide with a picture frame. This used to work ok in earlier versions of aspose.slide. But not anymore in the latest versions. So I am forced to export the chart in jpeg format.

The following EmfPlus used to work:
chart.SaveImage(ms, ChartImageFormat.EmfPlus);

Now I need to use Jpeg:

chart.SaveImage(ms, ChartImageFormat.Jpeg);

Is EmfPlus support dropped?

I appreciate your code.

However,

1. I am not using PresentationEx (Excel 2007) but Presentation (Excel 97 - Excel 2003).

2. I am not using the emf format but the emfplus (or emf+) format.

3. I am not using an autoshape but a Picture and the AddPictureFrame method.

4. I am not loading the image from a file but from a memorystream.

I cannot use PresentationEx because some of our customers want Excel 97 compatible presentations.

Can you confirm that :

1. The emf image that you use is indeed in the emfplus format.

2. That this image is correctly rendered when you add it to a Presentation (not PresentationEx) instance the way I did in my code.

I noticed that the code you provide does NOT include the emf as such in the generated pptx. Wat is included is the png version of the emf file and not the emf file itself.

Using your code the generated pptx file is about 187KB.

Inserting the image manually in PowerPoint 2007 and save the presentation gives a pptx file of about 64KB. The difference almost completely caused by the size of the emf versus that of the png version.

What then, is the point of adding a emf image to a presentation when you loose the vector presentation and hence the scaling abilities?

Please correct me if I am wrong, while using above shared code Aspose.Slides generates pptx having size equal to 90.6 KB and by inserting the image manually in MS PowerPoint 2007 and save the presentation gives a pptx file of about 106KB. (Both pptx are attached herewith)

Please note the following:

1. When you open the included TestEmfPlus.emf directly you can see it is a emfplus image where the gradient of the graph bars are rendered as intended.

2. In the generated powerpoint the same image is dittered and the perfect gradient effect is lost. Not something I want to show to our customers.

I am using the latest version of Aspose.Slide (5.9), Visual Studio 2008 and
Windows 7 Professional.

So I repeat my question: is the emfplus format supported in the Presentation class (Exel 97)?

With supported I mean: embedded in the presentation as a scalable vector image (emfplus) without loss of quality and with being converted to a bitmap format like png or jpg.

Please accept my apologies for a late reply.

I have worked with your project file plus reference presentation and able to see the issue of loss of quality in case of saving it in ppt. whereas in case of pptx format it’s not losing its quality.

I have tested the scenario in Aspose.Slides for .NET 5.9.0 and able to reproduce the same problem of losing quality of emf+ image in case of ppt presentation. For the sake of correction, I have logged this issue with ID SLIDESNET-33252 in our issue tracking system. Our development team will look into this issue and you will be updated via this forum thread once it is resolved.

Hi,We are using DotNet charting to generate a chart and we write it to a memory stream in emfplus format. This used to work fine in the earlier versions of Aspsose.Slides. Following is the code for Presentation Generation( 97 - Excel 2003)

shape.TextFrame.Text = String.Empty;

shape.FillFormat.Type = FillType.Picture;

Picture pic = new Picture(pres, new MemoryStream(bytesChartImage));

int picId = pres.Pictures.Add(pic);

shape.FillFormat.PictureId = picId;

}

The method GenerateChartImageStream above returns a byte array of an image with the format that is specified in the parameter of the method. The above code does not work when we migrated to the latest version of Aspose. The byte array created above is using the EMFPLUS format. We had to forcefully generate a image using the JPEG so as to render the image to the PPT slide.

Just FYI - EMF format renders perfectly on the Presentation (2007) i.e pptx.

I have observed the issue shared by you. Unfortunately, I cannot use the sample code shared by you. Please provide the emf plus image of chart in the form of file and I will try to add that in PPT shape using Aspose.Slides to reproduce the issue further.
