Designer File Open: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

I am running 1.8.1 and when I try to open my designer file, I get the following error:

Any ideas? This used to work but once I updated to 1.7.3 it stopped working and hasn’t worked since.

In 1.8, I made some major underline optimization. I will investigate if that introduce this bug.
