We are in the process of evaluating Aspose.Word for Java.
I have the following question:
We have a word document with mail merge fields and a data source file with about 1000 entries (based on xls or csv).
Is it possible to merge the word document with the given datasource file and to create pdf files for each entry of datasource file. As a result, 1000 PDF files should be created.
Is Aspose.Pdf for Java needed too?

Thank you for your interest in Aspose.Words. Of course, you can achieve this. Please follow the link to learn how to generate multiple documents during mail merge:

Also, the latest version of Aspose.Words for Java allows saving documents in PDF format. You do not need Aspose.Pdf. But note, this feature is in beta at the moment.
