We are in the process of the developing Aspose.OCR for .NET component (for the .NET framework), which will hopefully be available for public in Q2 2011.
We will also develop Aspose.OCR for Java after we complete and release Aspose.OCR for .NET.
The component will perform OCR on image files and try to recognize the characters in the supported languages.

Do I understand from your post that this will be a text-only OCR component and not maintain formatting or images?

We’re looking for a way to recognize text within png images for floor plans. We need OCR recognition so that a user can open a pdf containing their floor plan image and find a room number via search (currently we can achieve this functionality by using the OCR function inside the Acrobat application).
How long before a JAVA implementation of this is available?
We are looking for this feature as well.

The issues you have found earlier (filed as ) have been fixed in this Aspose.Words for JasperReports 18.3 update.
