Protection regions support in Aspose.Words

Hello,
we as an organisation are also very interested in having the possibility of protecting regions in documents. We experience in the following issue when using “editable regions” in combination with Aspose:
Protecting a msWord-document with the option “read_only” works only partly within Aspose. Regions defined as editable do not included (issue #1494) in generation by Aspose, at all times the document is marked completely as “read_only”.
Using the “read_only” option is preferred with respect to the other protection options, because in this way, it is possible to make parts of sentences/sections modifiable for the end-user. This is not possible with the option “allow_only_form_fields”.
With this possiblity it becomes possible for us to or overcome some quicks in our document generation process. Using the “allow_only_form_fields” option has the following drawbacks:
- an user can delete a header text, but is not allowed to modify it
- no possibility to enable/disable hyphenation in parts of a document
- no possibility to insert remarks
- no possibility to add an TOC
- no possibility to set a revision
- no possibility to insert citations
- …
We want to give the user the possibility to work with parts of the document without taking off the complete protection.
Regards Rob

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your inquiry.

First of all, unfortunately currently Aspose.Words does not support protection (e.g. read only) of selected ranges (partial protection of document). Your thread has been linked to the appropriate new feature (WORDSNET-1067) in our issue tracking system. We will let you know once this feature is supported. We apologize for any inconvenience and I would suggest you please read the following article on Protecting Documents:
https://docs.aspose.com/words/java/protect-or-encrypt-a-document/

Seondly, please note that if you set the document protection type as ReadOnly or AllowOnlyFormFields, the user cannot delete header text and he is not allowed to modify it either. Readonly option means no changes are allowed to the document and if you use AllowOnlyFormFields then all FormField will be editable.

Please let us know if you need more information; we are always glad to help you.

Best regards,

Hello,

Probably related, we also require support for protected regions. In our scenario, we use Aspose.Words (java) to modify custom document properties in a Word document and leave all other content, including protected regions, in tact. Currently, the resulting Word document has become totally readonly.

Can you please add me to the appropriate issue so I get notified about changes? When will you expect support for protected regions?

Thanks,
Herm Flink

Hi Herm,

Thanks for your request. Regarding WORDSNET-1067, we have a good news for you i.e. this issue has now been resolved and it’s support will be included in the next release of Aspose.Words (13.8.0). The next release of Aspose.Words is due out within next couple of days. We will inform you via this thread as soon as the new release of Aspose.Words is published.

Best regards,

The issues you have found earlier (filed as WORDSNET-1067) have been fixed in this .NET update and this Java update.
