Recommended Connection state check?

I'm doing some testing for network errors..

Aspose.Email for .Net 4.0

version: 3.8.0.0

On a local newtork, then connect VPN to the company network

After I connect, I click on a button to check network state:

Try

(works fine)

Then I diconnect VPN, recheck, the .ConnectionState call can not be trapped

Is there a safer way to ceck for the connection being open?

I have tried to reproduce the issue in my local environment and have not been able to reproduce the issue. Can you please guide us further for how to set up the desired test environment on our end with which you are able to reproduce the issue. Please share the feedback in this regard so that we may proceed to help you further.

On a local network

Connect to company network with VPN

Open connection to Exchange server

Check Conneciton

Drop VPN

Check Conneciton - causes failure 100% of the time

Thank you for the feedback.

It seems that the error may arise due to the network stream that is broken before tested for the connection state. We are currently in process of releasing Aspose.Email for .NET 3.9.0 that will take a couple of days more to be available for download and includes some improvements to the ImapClient as well. I would request you to please test this issue with the upcoming version and let us know your feedback then. We’ll further investigate it and assist you in this regard. Your cooperation is highly appreciated in this regard.

Thanks got it downloaded.. do you have an example of the order of the connecitons now?

I have this:

oImapClient = New ImapClient(Server, User, Password)
oImapClient.Connect(True)
oImapClient.SelectFolder(ImapFolderInfo.InBox)

But Connect says.. it's obsolete... examples still have it the 'old' way. Taking out the connect, errors in the SelectFolder call

The connect and Login methods are now obsolete and there is no need to use them. Could you please give it a try using the following code sample as it is working at my end. Please let us know your feedback then.

Thanks for the example.. but, this does not work

the .SelectFolder call causes an exception, and no message is set on the Catch ex as Exception

going back to 3.8, adding the connect back in.. works fine

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused to you.

I have tested the scenario again using Aspose.Email for .NET 4.1.0 and found that above mentioned sample code is working fine. As you mentioned that you don’t get any exception, I would like to share that now Aspose has provided new feature for logging activity by ImapClient and Pop3Client similar to SmtpClient . You may please use this feature to log the activity as mentioned here and let us know your feedback. We will try to provide assistance as soon as possible in this regard.

Hi Dave,

We recently identified an issue with default port number of IMAP client and that has been logged as NETWORKNET-34368 in our issue tracking system for further consideration by our development team. This issue was raised only when the ImapClient was initialized and used as follow:

ImapClient client = new ImapClient(“[exchange.aspose.com](http://exchange.aspose.com/)”, “asposeemail.test3”, “pwd”);

client.SelectFolder(ImapFolderInfo.InBox);

Other initializaitions of ImapClient didn’t raise this issue. The same may be the reason for the error that you are facing. I have linked this thread with the logged issue so that once the upcoming version of Aspose.Email for .NET is available, you’ll be notified and may test the issue.
