Dear Supportteam,

I have a problem with the AutoFitRows method of the Aspose.Cells.Worksheet and cells where the style was set to “IsTextWrapped = true”.

The method seems not to use the visible text of the cell, but the real cell value so that the resulting cell height is too big.

I expect to see the whole value if wapped text is on and not the short visible value. Is this a known issue or have I missed something?

The following code produces a xls-file, which contains in Cell A1 the visible value “2.123457”, but the cell has a height of two textrows.

var workbook = new Workbook();

var style = new Style { IsTextWrapped = true, VerticalAlignment = TextAlignmentType.Top};

var range = workbook.Worksheets[0].Cells.CreateRange(0, 0, 20, 20);

I have tried your code with the latest version and found the issue exists when text wrapped is set to true and when it is set to false, everything works fine.

We have logged this issue in our database. We will look into this issue and fix the problem. Once the issue is resolved or we have some other update for you, we will let you know asap.

I think this is not an issue with Aspose.Cells rather it is the behavior of MS Excel regarding numbers. You should know two things about MS Excel.

1) Numbers cannot be wrapped to paste in multiple rows in a cell. Please try it manually in MS Excel for confirmation.
2) MS Excel will cut some long decimal places for a number entered into a cell.

Please perform your steps (based on your sample code) in Ms Excel manually and you will see the same result as above two points.



If in any case, you need to wrap the number into multiple lines of a cell, you have to parse it in Text/String value. Your code will work fine if you parse your number to string value to be pasted in the cell, see the updated code sample here.

Parsing the number to a string is no solution for me, because some customers open the resulting xls in english and some others in german version of MS Excel.

I noticed your points 1 and 2 but one thing makes MS Excel different:
If i doubleclick on the row indicator in Excel the row height gets smaller so that it has the right height for the visible text.
Is it possible to implement the AutoFitRow to the visible part of the Number (in our sample code the visible “2.123457”) ?

I found the culprit line in your code. Since there is no merged area/cells in your range, so you should change your line of code:

workbook.Worksheets[0].AutoFitRows();

I have tested using the above line, it works fine (the row height is smaller and applied to the visible part of the number ) and works the way as MS Excel does.

ok you’re right. There is no merged cell in my sample. But there there are many usecases where i have mixed rows of merged and unmerged cells.

So i enlarge my sample code with an merged range:

var workbook = new Workbook();
var style = new Style { IsTextWrapped = true, VerticalAlignment = TextAlignmentType.Top};
var range = workbook.Worksheets[0].Cells.CreateRange(0, 0, 20, 20);
range.SetStyle(style);
workbook.Worksheets[0].Cells[0,0].Value = 2.12345678901234;
var range2 = workbook.Worksheets[0].Cells.CreateRange(0, 1, 1, 2);
range2.Merge();
workbook.Worksheets[0].Cells[0, 1].Value = 2.12345678901234;
workbook.Worksheets[0].AutoFitRows(new AutoFitterOptions() {AutoFitMergedCells = true});
///workbook.Worksheets[0].AutoFitRows();
workbook.Save(“C:\AsposeAutofitTest.xls”);

So setting the AutoFitMergedCells to false does also not solve my problem.

You are right, I think there might be an issue regarding Auto-fit Row(s) operation when we specify the merged areas with wrapping text on style option. Your code (in your previous reply) demonstrates the issue you have mentioned.

I have logged a ticket with an id: CELLSNET-40993. We will look into it to figure it out soon.
