Save times slow for spreadsheet with 21-000 rows

I got a great response to my last post "Load times slow for spreadsheet with 21,000 rows". However when saving the excel file attached to that issue, it is taking over 4 minutes to save the file locally to the hard disk. I am just using the code

gridDesktop1.ExportExcelFile(file, FFT);

Where FFT is the Excel2007 option. Can I do anything to improve the saving times?
