We are currently using ASPOSE to convert documents hosted in the Agile PLM tool. Agile PLM is a Oracle product. Oracle will end support for Agile PLM by December 2027, which means we won’t be able to apply patches or upgrades to Agile PLM and its supported Java version after December 2027. We need to determine if this will impact the ASPOSE PDF conversion functionality if we stop updating or patching Java after December 2027. Can you please help me to get this information?
Can you please specify which Aspose product you are using for PDF conversion and if there are any specific features or functionalities you are concerned about regarding the impact of not applying Java patches?
We are using Aspose for converting word, ppt, excel to PDF
The end of support for Agile PLM and its associated Java version by December 2027 does not impact your ASPOSE APIs PDF conversion/generation functionality of Word, Excel and PPT files . But you may evaluate certain factors that may potentially impact. Here’s a detailed analysis to help you determine the impact:
- Java Version Compatibility: Identify the Java version currently supported by Agile PLM. If this version is already outdated (e.g., Java 6/7 or earlier), it may not be compatible with future versions of some ASPOSE for Java APIs.
- ASPOSE Java API Requirements: Check and keep an eye on the minimum Java version required by the ASPOSE libraries you are using. ASPOSE Java APIs typically support recent Java versions, and newer releases of ASPOSE may drop support for very older Java versions. For example, see the documents on System Requirements pages for some Aspose APIs for your reference:
System Requirements|Aspose.Words for Java
System Requirements|Documentation
System Requirements|Aspose.Slides Documentation
In short, verify the Java version used by Agile PLM and compare it with the supported Java versions for ASPOSE (Java) APIs. If the Java version is outdated, you may face compatibility issues with future ASPOSE updates. So, you have to upgrade to relatively newer versions (if possible) for safer side.
Hello Amjad, Thanks for your quick response!
The current Java 8 is compatible with Agile PLM. Most probably, this will be the version that will be compatible even after December 2027. Though any new version will be available in future, we will not be upgrading Java to a new version or patching existing version as we expect that will not be compatible with Agile PLM. Given this scenario, we are interested to know this will create any compatible issues with the Aspose APIs? If yes, how this can be handled ?
Yes, Java 8 is compatible with Aspose (Java) APIs and is expected to remain compatible beyond 2027.
Thanks Amjad!
