Aspose on Android?

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to use Aspose on Android to convert Office Word and PDF documents into images?

Thanks,

Yongjian

Hi Yongjian,

Thank you for your interest in Aspose.Words for Java. Unfortunately, I am afraid you cannot use the current version Aspose.Words for Java on the Android platform.

But there is good news too. In one of the future versions, we have planned to include Android support. After this, you will be able to use Aspose.Words on the Android platform. I have linked your request to the appropriate issue, WORDSJAVA-16. We will let you know once it is resolved.

I am moving this thread to the Aspose.Total forum. My colleagues from the Aspose.Pdf team will reply to you about the Aspose.Pdf product.

Hi Yongjian,

Thanks for your interest in our products.

I am a representative from Aspose.Pdf team. I am afraid the current release versions of Aspose.Pdf for Java are not compatible with Android platform. However for the sake of investigation/implementation, we have logged this requirement as PDFNEWJAVA-33296 in our issue tracking system. We will further look into the details of this requirement and will keep you posted on the status of correction. Please be patient and spare us little time.

We are sorry for this inconvenience.

Sounds good. The product currently not supported on Android, is it because of any key component missing? Do you know when this future version is planned for release?

Thank you very much for your information.

Yongjian

Hi Yongjian,

Thanks for your inquiry.

I am representative of Aspose.Words team. I have verified the status of WORDSJAVA-16 from our issue tracking system and like to share with you that this issue has been planned for development. Hopefully, this issue will be fixed in February 2013 release of Aspose.Words. We will update you via this forum thread once this issue is resolved.

Hi Yongjian,

Thanks for your interest in Aspose products.

Yes, there are too many reasons, but the key reason is the unavailability of many classes under java.awt and java.swing packages which have been replaced with completely different implementation under android.graphics packages. Due to this fundamental difference, a huge effort is potentially required to make Aspose libraries compatible with Android platform.

At the moment, we are evaluating the technical viability of the Aspose for Android API. At this point, it is very hard to commit any time frame because we are at a very initial stage and will need to go through a series of stages before our first official release.

However, in the meantime, there is an alternative for you if it is feasible for your case. I 'd like to introduce you to saaspose.com. Saaspose is nothing but a cloud version of Aspose, i.e, Aspose libraries have been hosted in cloud and can be used through REST API calls without depending upon any platform. We have recently release an Android SDK as well to ease the use of Saaspose API for Android developers. Please visit the below blog post for more details:

For any further inquiries, please feel free to raise with us.

Thanks again

The issues you have found earlier (filed as WORDSJAVA-16) have been fixed in this .NET update and this Java update.
