Cannot read text fields for Excel files exported by BUsiness Objects

For a large financial reporting system we need to read a number of Excel files that are exported by 'Business Objects' (http://www.businessobjects.com/). I have this feeling that these export files are not 100% Excel compliant although the various versions of Excel don't have a problem opening them.

However, when I open the file using Aspose.Cells (tried latest version as well) I cannot read values from text cells. Reading numerical data is fine though. I also cannot access other properties such as cell styling etc.

When I resave the file in Aspose and then open the file in Excel then all the text fields and formatting are gone. However, when I open and save the original (BO Exported) file using Excel then I CAN access all text fields using Aspose.cells. Unfortunately this is no option.

I cannot send you the original Excel files as they contain highly confidential information. Is there any other way to troubleshoot this?

An original Excel files is a must to troubleshoot this problem. You can try to export a simple Excel file without confidential information.

As I know, some 3rd party products write Excel files mixed with various version BIFF records. I think the text records in your Excel files are BIFF7 records which will use more file size. If you use MS Excel to open and save those files, you will find the file size will be smaller and Aspose.Cells won't have problem to read them.

BIFF7 is format of Excel95 files and BIFF8 is format of Excel97-Excel2003. Aspose.Cells only supports BIFF8 format.

We recommend you to kindly try upgrading to and use latest version of the product which includes support for older BIFF7 (Excel 95/5.0 - 2003 Workbook) formats with enhancements now:
