Chart font issue

Hello,

I had issue with font’s settings before in the document when I was rendering PDF files and I fixed those issues by setting font directory and default font name on the workbook:

CellsHelper.setFontDir(fontDirectory);

And

Style defaultStyle = workbook.getDefaultStyle();

defaultStyle.getFont().setName(fontName);

workbook.setDefaultStyle(defaultStyle);

That fixed my font issues in tables but for some reason Graphs in the document not picking default font set on workbook.

I think I have to set default font for every single graph my code creates, but I don’t know how to do it. Could you please tell me how to set default font on graphs?

Hi,

Well, first of all you should make sure all the fonts used in the Excel workbook (in sheet/contents, charts etc.) should be installed on the system, so you could specify “CellsHelper.setFontDir(fontDirectory);” in your code to render to PDF file formats.

Secondly, if the above is not possible, then you may try to specify the default font in PdfSaveOptions if it works fine for your needs, see the sample code here:

Sample code:

PdfSaveOptions saveOptions = new PdfSaveOptions();

saveOptions.setDefaultFont(“Lucida Sans”);

workbook.save(“d:\Report.pdf”,saveOptions);

Unfortunately that didn’t fix my issue.

I have no problem when running program on Windows but when I do on Linux then I get font problems.

What I done:

I set font directory:

CellsHelper.setFontDir("/usr/share/fonts");

There is not many font available on Linux server so I want Aspose to use the one which available ("Arial Unicode MS")

I also set default font used by Workbook:

Style defaultStyle = workbook.getDefaultStyle();

defaultStyle.getFont().setName("Arial Unicode MS");

workbook.setDefaultStyle(defaultStyle);

And last thing I done is I used PdfSaveOptions to use right font also:

PdfSaveOptions saveOptions = new PdfSaveOptions();

saveOptions.setDefaultFont("Arial Unicode MS");

wbk.save(outputStream, saveOptions);

There is no place in my code where Font is resetted. And for some reason Aspose is picking right font on table but wrong font on graphs.

But despite all my effort correct font is not used in all places of my application

I looked at generated PDF and notices that there is more font used in application which I never specified to use (ScreenStot033.jpg)

I also attached generated PDF document which has font printing errors on graphs (Nissan Russia (38).pdf). I can't provide excel file because that currently code is not saving it as excel.

I hope that information I provided is enough to understand what problem is.

Hi,

Which version of Aspose.Cells for Java you are using, pleas use our latest version Aspose.Cells for Java (Latest Version) if you are not already using it. We recommend you to kindly copy all the needed fonts from Windows to your Linux machine into the relevant folder and use such as CellsHelper.setFontDir() to make cells use them, then check whether you can get the same result with windows environment or not. Alternatively, you may also try to install Microsoft TrueType Core Fonts at your Linux system.

If you still find the issue, please save your final Excel workbook to disk and provide the Excel file here, we will evaluate and look into your issue soon.

Hello,

We use v7.5.2 version.

I don’t think that I can copy fonts from Windows to Linux machine because that fonts
is protected by copyrights. We also have Microsoft TrueType Core Font installed
on Linux machine.

I want only one particular font to be used in the PDF file. But when document is saved as PDF then some other fonts is used, not explicitly specified default workbook fonts. I would like to know why it’s happening.

I attached excel version of previously attached pdf file (pdfExcelVersion.xlsm). Please let me know if you need any more details.

Hi,

We have tested your template file with Linux environment. Please see the attached resultant PDF files. When we did not set the font dir, we got the same result as per yours which is incorrect for the charts (res_nofont.pdf). If we set the font dir to one dir which only contains font “Arial Unicode MS”(ARIALUNI.TTF), we got the result (res_arailuni.pdf) which we think is fine. So, please confirm again that you have set the correct font dir before generating the pdf. If you still get the incorrect result, please send us your font file and we will make further investigation for your issue.

Thank you for you replay.
I attached fonts.zip file which contains fonts folder (/usr/share/fonts) we use as fonts directory.
I am sure my code sets right font directory before initializing new workbook:
CellsHelper.setFontDir("/usr/share/fonts");
Please note that only “Arial Unicode MS” could be used on document and no other font.

Thanks for using Aspose.Cells for Java.

When specify font dir(s), we only search font files in the specified path directly and will not search fonts from sub-directories recursively. So, to use the font “Arial Unicode MS”, please set the font directory as:

CellsHelper.setFontDir("/usr/share/fonts/arial_unicodeMS");

To use multiple fonts, you can either put all fonts into one directory or use CellsHelper.setFontDirs() method to add all font directories.
