Copy an OfficeMath object to new document

I am attempting to copy an OfficeMath object to a newly create document. After a deep clone the containing paragraph object, the document builder throws an Illegal argument exception. The text reads in part “… newChild was create from a different document…”.

Is there anyway to copy or move an OfficeMath object to a new document?
