Difference between Aspose total for SharePoint and Aspose total for .NET

We are planning to buy Aspose total to do some development. We mainly use Aspose on SharePoint. However, we have some batch processing exe console applications that need Aspose. We noticed that Aspose total for SharePoint is cheaper than Aspose total for .NET.

  • What’s the difference between Aspose total for SharePoint and .NET
  • Can we use Aspose total for SharePoint in an exe program (e.g. in a console Application?)
  • Can Aspose total for .NET use in SharePoint given the fact that it is more expensive. For example will the Aspose.Cells for .NET works correctly in SharePoint?

Aspose.Total for .NET is much more flexible and feasible than Aspose.Total for SharePoint and contains much more features. Aspose.Total for .NET is set of Aspose .NET Framework assemblies that only need .NET Framework to run/execute. You can use them in any environment like exe, dll, sql server, web service, windows service, asp.net, sharepoint etc. However, you will have to write your own code to integrate or make use of them in different types of environment.

Aspose.Total for SharePoint is only specific to SharePoint environment. You cannot make use of it in dll, exe, sql server, webservice, windows service, asp.net etc environments. It is tightly integrated to SharePoint only. Also, it has much less features than Aspose.Total for .NET and basically it is a converter that convert SharePoint documents into PDF or other formats.

Yes, Aspose.Cells for .NET should work correctly with SharePoint (some customers are already using it in SharePoint environment) but you will have to write your own code to integrate it with SharePoint environment. If you can write such a code, then you are good to go with it.

We will suggest you, you try both (Aspose.Total for .NET and Aspose.Total for SharePoint) in evaluation mode without any license and check the feasibility of both of them as per your needs and then make a purchase decision.

FYI: Please note both APIs work equally well in Evaluation Mode just like in Licensed Mode except with one limitation that in Evaluation Mode, they create documents with Evaluation Warning. Besides you can also request a Temporary License from Aspose.Sales team which will work for one month to test the APIs in Licensed Mode.

When is the next major release of Apose.NET total is planned? Right now we have 8.x.x.x. When will be the next major release 9.x.x.x will come? I suppose if we have 8.x.x.x license support till December next year, do we get a free upgrade to 9.xxx v

Thanks for your posting and considering Aspose.

Normally, each month a new release of Aspose.Total is published, so you can get a new release after every month.

Your license subscription entitles you 1-year of free upgrades starting from the date of purchase. So if you will purchase a license today (27-Aug-2015), you will be able to get free upgrades till (27-Aug-2016).

Does this mean even major releases are availble for free upgrade ? E.g. aspose cells 8.xxx can be freely upgradable to 9.x.x.x. if version 9.x.x.x. is released during the time of our subscription/support.
