I've upgraded Aspose.Cells from version 4.9.0 to version 7.0.2. Now we have a blocking issue : we use Aspose built-in methods for generating an Excel 2003 file (.xls format). The file is generated, we can open it in Excel 2007 but when we manually save it, we get this error message "Errors were detected while saving '...', Microsoft Office Excel may be able to save the file by removing or repairing features". I'd also like to add that everything worked with version 4.9.0.
The technical environement :
- Aspose .NET version
- .NET framework 3.5
- Windows XP
- Microsoft Excel 2007 (we use 2007 to read 2003 Excel files).
Could you create a sample console application, zip it and post it here to reproduce the issue on our end. Please use version 7.0.2 API to create such an 2003 xls file, so that we can also open that file into MS Excel 2007 and save it as to see the error message. If we found the issue, we will log it and fix it soon.
Please find enclosed in this thread two zip files :
- Aspose7020_Issue.zip : this sample uses the latest Aspose.Cells version, ie the 7.0.2 version. In this sample, we generate an Excel 2003 file, the file is generated, we can open it in Excel 2007. But when we manually save it, we get the error "Errors while saving ...."
- Aspose4900_OK.zip : this sample is identical to that above, except it uses the 4.9.0.0 of Aspose.Cells. It works fine, the process of generating the Excel 2003 file is exactly the same of that in the sample above.
After an initial test, using your sample project “Aspose7020_Issue.zip” I can find the issue as you have mentioned. I have logged a ticket with an id: CELLSNET-40016 . We will look into it soon.
We've tested the new version and we can now open Excel 2003 file in Excel 2007. Thank you very much.
Unfortunately, 80% of our users still use Excel 2003 (they still open Excel 2003 files in Excel 2003), so it prevents us from upgrading to the newest version of Aspose. Please let us know when you fix the issue in Excel 2003.
Surely, we will fix the issue. But, we need to know which records corrupted the file in Excel 2003. Once we fix the issue, we will let you know here immediately.
Thank you very much. It seems that this latest version fixes all our issues (open and save files both in Excel 2003 and 2007). We would like to do more testing before closing the ticket.
We have one question though : will you release in the future a real version of Aspose.NET as the v7.0.2.4 is only a fix ?
Well, you may use the fix v7.0.2.4 without any problem. It will work as an official release. Normally, we post the bug fixes in the forums dynamically at run time for the users need. Suppose, a user points out a bug or demand for a new feature for his need and if he has no time to wait until the next official release/hotfix is out, we always consider providing him with an intermediate build that resolves his problem immediately. The fix will always include the functionality of the all the previous official versions and fixes (which we posted in the forums). Moreover, you may use this fix as long as you wish without any problem, it will behave like an official release in your production server.
Our official release is scheduled in the mid of each month or so.
