Excel files created by Microsoft Jet Engine

Hi,

We have problems reading Excel files created with Microsoft Jet Engine used by a client.
Due to the confidential nature of the contents, I cannot attach it, and I don’t have the product to create such an Excel file.

What I see is this: the Workbook can be opened, the first sheet can be fetched, its name is visible, but sheet.getCells().getMaxDataRow() returns -1 as if there was no data on the sheet.

I tried to open the file with FileFormatType.EXCEL97 and EXCEL2003, but the result is the same. Excel is in Compatibility Mode when opening the file. As soon as the file is saved in Excel, it becomes readable by Aspose.Cells.

Please tell me if there’s a way to correct this.

Hi Laszlo,

I think there is a possibility for such an issue: Is the file created by some program and the sheet cells have all the formulas without the calculation is made. The getMaxDataRow() might return -1. But, mind you if the template file is created by MS EXCEL, this situation is impossible I think. Would you please confirm us for that? If it is so, we can provide a new fix for you to test. If this is not the case, I am afraid, we have to get your template file to find the issue. Well, you can post your template file here without any problem. Please follow the instructions provided by Nausherwan.

Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for your answers.
Yes, I can confirm that this is a generated Excel file. Near the end of file it says “Microsoft JET Created Table”, so it is likely that this file is directly produced from client’s database.
As I wrote re-saving in Excel solves the issue, but we would like to support the produced file if it is possible.

cheers,
Laszlo
