Handling large Excel files with Gridweb

Hi,

we are using gridweb and are facing problems when an large excel-file is loaded. The excel file contains around 13.600 rows and 20 columns. The problems are:

#1 Loading the excel file takes a long time.
#2 Selecting a cell takes a long time.
#3 When the excel file is scrolled away from the column captions and a drop-down list is selected gridweb jumps to the top and then back to the selected cell. This behavior can be observed when clicking on somewhere on a cell in column H or column L.

Setting EnableAsync="true" fixed the problems but then our Excel file looked very strange (Problem #4). (see attachment)
Enabling paging fixed problem #1, #2 and #4 but not #3.

Another problem with paging and EnableSync is that the user has always to be able to past data. For both scenarios pasted data is just recognized for the shown cells. E.g. when I copy the data of 120 rows from excel to gridweb and only 100 rows are shown in gridweb, then only the data of 100 rows is pasted in gridweb. (problem #5)

Is there a way to solve #1, #2, #3 and #5 simultaneously?

In addition to my first post I have to report two more problems.

Problem #6: Opening the attached file from my first post, firefox demands around 1.6 GB of memory. Hence, a fluent working is not possible.

Problem #7: Pasting data from excel (e.g. 500 rows and 13 columns) takes more than two minutes with IE. Additionally, in FF I get a “script not responding” warning.

So again my question: How can I handle large excel files with gridweb allowing the pasting of data from excel?

We tried to load your source excel file inside the gridweb on firefox and it threw out of memory exception as shown in the screenshot. I have also attached the sample gridweb (Visual Studio 2013) project which was used for testing this issue.

We have logged this issue and your questions in our database for product team consideration and investigation. We will look into it and let you know the solution or workaround or in case of some bug, we will fix it. Once, there is some news for you, we will update you asap.

We are able to reproduce this issue and will fix it. It will also fix the #1, #2 and #3.

Please note, for large excel files, you are already doing it correctly i.e setting EnableAsync="true"

For #5, we need to discuss it with you. For example, when currently we have only 100 rows in current view port, thus if user copies 150 rows of data, we cannot paste the data to the non-existent rows in current view port. Your data has more number of rows than the current number of rows. Let us know what alert message we can raise to deal with it.

Hi,

thanks for your reply. The user should be warned that not all data has been pasted. I don’t mind the exact message. It should be possible to localize this message using the ACWLanguageFile.

By the way: We’ve already edited the acwmain.js to inform the user in such a case.
