How do I add XMP Rights Management Properties to a pdf file?

I am working on a system that will create multiple reports. I need to apply our companies copyright legend to the metadata.

I would like to use XMP data properties (see attachment) similar to what is shown.

 xmpRights:Marked
 xmpRights:WebStatement

I attempted to read the metadata (xmpRights) from the attached file. Accessing this metadata resulted in an application crash.

Note that the attached document has:

dc:rights , xmpRights:Marked , xmpRights:WebStatement

Would you please share narrowed down code which crashes the application so that we may investigate accordingly.
