Merge Field and CheckBox

Hi

I was wondering is it possible to populate a CheckBox as a merge field. Maybe if I could pass a boolean value to a CheckBox would be great. Or do I have to give the CheckBox a bookmark name which is the same as a Item in my datarow? Would be grateful for any example docs
