.msi installer

I have to believe that the .msi installer for this product is just not functional and the only way to get it installed is the manual way.

Is this a True story? Personal experience cause I got curious and easy enough to try on test servers. So I’ve tried it on Server: 2003, 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2.

It never works even as an admin on the box with the .msi on the local machine. Tried both physical and virtual machines.

So what is this .msi file actually for?
