The original Word document has margin notes in the left-hand column. These end up within the body of the text in the resulting pdf. Samples attached.

Sorry for delayed response. I managed to reproduce the problem on my side. The problem occurs because “margin notes” in your document are frames. This problem is logged in our defect database as issue #8182. I will notify you as soon as it is fixed.
As a workaround, you can try avoiding using of frames in your document.
