Hi,

We are using Aspose Cells for Java, v. 2.5.4, to fill a template XLS file.
There is a sheet in the template which has to be duplicated for a set of objects. This sheet contains 3 checkboxes, some cells with data validation set and some cells with conditional formatting.

After we fill the template, we are having a number of strange issues.

1. When selecting a cell with data validation set, one of the checkboxes (it's not always the same one) always moves right over the validated cell, resizes to cover it completely so all clicks are received by the checkbox, not by the cell behind it. When we deselect the cell, the checkbox disappears. Sometimes it goes back to its correct place, other times I can't find it anymore. But it reappears when I select a cell with data validation. This happens for any cell with data validations.
This issue does not occur if we use one of the 7.x.x versions of Cells (but new issues appear)
Also, I have seen this issue happen with the Net version of Cells too (also fixed by upgrading to v. 7), but instead of checkboxes, the moving shape was an image (the worked around it by removing the image, but this is not an option for us).

2. We cannot save the file. (Aspose generates it, but when we open it in Excel and try to save it, it fails)
If we generate it with Cells v. 2.x.x, Excel crashes when the file is saved (also when AutoRecovery tries to save it).
If we generate it with Cells v. 7.x.x, Excel is still unable to save it, but doesn't crash. However, when we open it, we get an error about "Excel found unreadable content in ...", giving me an option to recover the file. If I do, I see the log that "Removed Records: Merge Cells from /xl/worksheets/somesheets.xml". There are 2 logs like this, one for the template sheet and one for the last copy of the template sheet.

We cannot upgrade to the latest 7 versions because it causes issues that version 2 doesn't. For example, merged cells get broken (either unmerged or more cells added to the merge).
So the API change is manageable, but the regression issues introduced in our existing codebase requires more time than we have.


Are you aware of these issues? Do you have some workarounds available?

We recommend you to upgrade to v7.0 because we provide fixes based on v7.0, but since, you cannot upgrade to v7.0, so I have forwarded your issue to development team to advise you workarounds if any. I have logged this issue in our database. Once, we will get some update, we will let you know asap.

In the sheet which we duplicate, there is an image.
We found that if we remove that image, the save issue no longer occurs, for both versions of Cells for Java (2.5.4 and 7.0.2).
Note that there still are images in the template, just not in the sheet which we duplicate.

Also, we noticed that the checkboxes move only for cells which have data validation set from a list AND the in-cell dropdown option is activated. If we removed the in-cell dropdown, the checkbox issue no longer occurs.

Maybe you can use this info to identify the issue faster.
