For inserting documents at mailmerge we use the sample provided at https://docs.aspose.com/words/java/insert-and-append-documents/
At one of our documents we get a StackOverflowException. Attached is a zip with a small sample.
Note that the subdoc.docx is edited by changing it to ZIP and editing the document.xml.
I don’t think this would change anything else. (the real document is confidential)
If you open, edit and save the document in Word, it works, yet that’s only a temporary work-around and not really useful as our services crash IIS on the first try.

While using the latest version of Aspose.Words i.e. 13.6.0, I managed to reproduce this exception on my side. I have logged this issue in our bug tracking system. The issues you have found earlier (filed as WORDSNET-8586) have been fixed in this .NET update and this Java update.
